Templates

Photojunction automatically generates templates of all your layouts when you save an album. These include any special effects (such as borders, opacity, sepia) that you applied in the original design.

If you wish, you can also "Save As Template" any layout while you're working (accessed from the Album menu). As the graphic indicates, this gives you more control: you can save to a particular  template collection, save individual sides rather than the whole layout, and save with or without images as you prefer.

You'll find Photojunction's auto-generated templates under "Template Albums" in the Navigation panel. They'll be listed under the name of the parent album. If you like, you can also add them to any "Template Collection" that you've created.

Separate template window

By default you access your templates in the Events window, but if you have enough screen space you'll probably find it more convenient to open your templates in a separate window by. You can do so by right-clicking on the Template Collections header in the Navigation panel.

To use templates

Simply drag (or shift-drag) the template you want from the Event window to the Layout window. The template will be recreated on the current layout with empty apertures, into which you can drag and drop images.

Any apertures already on the layout will be deleted, after a warning.

There's a big difference between "dragging" and "shift-dragging"!

All templates are the same, but big differences arise depending on whether you drag or shift-drag them on to the  current layout.

"Dragging" templates

If you drag a template WITHOUT the shift key, what you drag is a "layout template". If the album format is different than the original, Photojunction will display the template as large as possible on the new layout.

THAT MEANS THE APERTURE SIZE, AND THE SPACE BETWEEN APERTURES, MAY VARY SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE ORIGINAL, OR FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE VENDOR'S REQUIREMENTS.  HOWEVER THE ASPECT RATIO WILL STAY THE SAME.

Click on the image above to open it and you'll see what we mean.

You can drag the bottom right-hand corner of the template so that it fills the entire layout . Of course this will change the aspect ratio, as well as further changing the aperture size and spacing.

"Shift-dragging" templates

If you SHIFT-DRAG a template, what you drag is an "aperture group template". What this action does is add the apertures from the original template as a Group in the top left-hand corner of the layout. The size and spacing of all apertures will remain exactly as in the original, but the distance to the page edge will be ignored.

The great thing about shift-dragging aperture groups on to layouts is you don't need to rearrange or re-align them.

apertures are added to the page "grouped"

Whether you drag or shift-drag to the layout, the apertures will be grouped to maintain their alignment and relative positioning. You can add images without ungrouping, but will need to ungroup before adding orcropping, zooming or aligning etc.

importing and sharing PJ Remix templates

You can import templates designed in Remix by clicking the More button on the Event window and selecting Import Templates. If you select the Import Folder option you will automatically create a new template collection.

You can also import templates created in PJ Retro by following the instructions at the bottom of this page.

deleting templates

You can delete templates by clicking the Delete button at the top of the window. You can also delete entire Template Albums or Collections by clicking the “–” icon next to the template name.

If at some future time you re-save an album, the templates created from the album will be modified, or re-created if you've deleted them in the meantime.

Exporting PJ Remix templates

You can export Template Collections and save them in a folder on your hard disk for archiving or distribution. Each template will be saved as an individual file. Just right-click on a template album or collection to start (as above).

You can also click the Share These Templates button to email selected templates or collections directly to a friend or colleague.

Importing templates from PJ Retro

You can import your old Photojunction Retro templates into PJ Remix.

  3. Run the template exporter.

  4. When prompted by the exporter, choose the previously mentioned TemplateCast.cst as the input file.

  5. Create a new folder on your desktop and choose it as the "output" folder.

  6. Click the  export button to re-ceate your Retro templates as individual Remix template files in this folder.
